Why consider high dose (Orthomolecular) therapy?

Many disease states involve impairment of nutrient delivery.
The purpose of intravenous therapy is to supply elements of normal metabolism and those required for resolution of illness. These therapies rebalance the mechanisms or causes of disease by regulating biochemical and physiological pathways that contribute to both symptoms and disease progression. This does not create a dependency, but instead may reduce the need for other medications, both pharmaceutical and natural. This route of delivery bypasses any problems with absorption or alterations by the liver. High dose nutrient therapy also has different effects than oral use. For example Vitamin C orally is an anti-oxidant, whereas given in high doses intravenously, it acts as an anti-histamine, stimulates interferon (immune modulation) and has anti-cancer properties. High concentrations of nutrients allow chronically ill patients to jump-start the road to recovery.
